Andalucían marshland, 1980. Two girls have mysteriously disappeared after a local fiesta. Juan and Pedro, two unequal cops from Madrid are assigned to the investigation and reluctantly move into the only hotel in town. Soon the girls’ bodies surface and the men are forced to work together. Their killer seems to be a serial offender, whose tracks not only impend to seep away in the mud, but are also covered by the local community.
This noirishly tense crime thriller, whose characters and setting are reminiscent of the US TV-series TRUE DETECTIVE, takes us to a world of distrust and perversion in post-Franco-Spain. LA ISLA MÍNIMA has won ten Goya Awards including best film, best director and best cinematography.
