Eik is a single mother in her early twenties. Because her salary as a kindergarten teacher is insufficient, she makes some extra money as a call girl. Móri is a brilliant writer about to release his new novel, but every night he drowns the demons of his past in alcohol. Sölvi has newly entered the banking business and hesitates to take part in the unscrupulous tricks of his partners. But soon his morality is put to the test in the private sphere as well.
The lives of the three characters interlink in complex ways and draw a bleak society panorama of Iceland on the eve of the great financial crisis of 2008. After great success in domestic cinemas Vonarstræti was the Icelandic proposal for the Academy Awards nomination in 2015.
